MEMORIES

Last year my  friends and I went to Belgium on 1st August. When we arrived in Brussels it was raining and the weather was too cold, but it didn't matter because we were so happy to be travelling together around Europe.

The second day, my best friend Mary and I took a train to Gant, a university town, although the others stood in the capital city. I didn't know what was waiting for me in Gant. When we were having a drink in a modern pub a beautiful girl asked me: "what time is it?"
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The girl who was asking me was Sara, a Spanish childhood friend. I hadn't seen him for ages but I knew that she would always be my friend. In spite of the fact that we had changed  we still recognised each other. Thanks to our meeting we spent a lot of time together and we visited lots of places in Gant. As we walked for hours we were very tired, so we went to have lunch in my hotel.

Although Sara and Mary  didn't know each other they had a good time together. It was a great experience.

Halloween in Port Aventura

At the end of October in 2010, we went to Port Aventura, the theme park in Salou (Tarragona). When we went it was Halloween. We spent four days there, but we only spent two days at the park. There I met a boy and we became friends. We went everywhere together.
We got on at all rides; such as “Furious Baco”, “Port de la Drassana” “Dragon Khan”, “Hurakan Condor” or “Stampida”. In addition, we enjoyed these two days at the park. Besides, we saw lots of shows; for instance “bubblebou”, “Templo del fuego Halloween” or “Bang Bang Halloween”. There were some people who were disguised as Freddy Krüger, Adams Family, vampires and many others. We got on “Hurakan Condor” and while the attraction was going up, suddenly it stopped. We were hung there for over an hour, and we were terrified. The mechanic repaired it, and we could enjoy the attraction. When we returned to Menorca, We kept seeing each other but not anymore. I haven’t seen him for ages, but I know he will always be my friend.
I had fun, enjoyed myself and laugh with him. This was one of the best trips that I have ever done. The experience was hilarious and fascinating.

My first love

I’ll always remember my first. I went to Galicia with my family for three weeks. It was Christmas and in the same place there was another family similar to ours. He was the same age as me. It was love at first sight. He was gorgeous and when he saw me. The boy approached to me and asked me my phone number. In that moment the family left the hotel because they were going to Santiago. I was sad because I thought that I would never see him again.

One day my family and me got up and went for breakfast. It was Monday and that day we went to visit the cathedral of Santiago. At eleven o’clock the phone rang. I answered it. It was the boy that I met in the hotel. I could not believe it. It was the boy who I had fallen in love with. I was amazed because I didn’t understand why the boy called me.  He said that he was in Santiago and he wanted to see me. Suddenly he hanged up the phone and every time I called him he didn’t answer the phone. I was heartbroken and I didn’t want to do anything.

I fell out of touch with him and he and me grew apart. I never saw him again. At first I was very disappointed with him because he never answered the phone when I called him but finally I got over the situation and I ended passing the rest of my holidays happily.

My friend Ines

A few years ago in Valencia, where I lived for two years, lived a valencian girl. I haven’t seen her for ages, but I know that she will always be my friend no matter the distance. This summer she gave me a big surprise when she came to visit me in Menorca because it proved to me that she is one of my best friens.

When I lived in Valencia I stayed at her home for two years because of a sports experience, I spent all my time with her, we went to school together, to train, to championships, for walks, etc.. She is a friendly girl because she was always trying to make people laugh. After a time, because of working causes she and her family had to move to Milan. Upon receiving the news, I felt very sad because I would miss her a lot. Very sad, I started preparing the bags and get my things to return to Menorca.

Now, this year she has come to visit me to Menorca and we have recalled memorable moments of my stay at her home and we have seen that, despite the distance, our friendship continues growing up. I’m very happy to have seen Ines again.

Adventure Camp

Some years ago I sent an e-mail to participate in an adventure camp in which there were only fifteen places avaliable. I wanted to go because I had never been in any camp outside Menorca. In this camp we would do a lot of things like climb a mountain, rafting, ride a horse… and more things like this.
At first I wasn’t admitted because there were a lot of people, however, two boys became ill and, consequently, I was admitted at the camp. There I met a lot of people from other parts of Spain but in special I met a girl who was my best friend at the camp because we were in the same room and we spent the whole day together. The camp only lasted a week and then we had to separate because she lived in Madrid and I lived in Menorca and we knew that we won’t be together any longer and, for this reason we felt very sad and disappointed.
She came back to Madrid whereas I came back to Menorca and I haven’t seen her for ages, but I know she will always be my friend.

My friend Serena

When I was very little I had a friend who lived in Ibiza. She came every year to spend the summer in Menorca in my favourite place, where there is a pretty beach, Sa Mesquida. She is Serena and now she is eighteen years old but when she came to Menorca she was seven.
When she came she stayed at her aunt’s house for one week with her two cousins. She came every summer because her mother is a sister of her aunt and when Serena’s mother was younger she lived in Menorca and they spent the summer in Sa Mesquida, but when Serena’s mother met her husband, who is from Ibiza, they decided to live there. Serena was born there and she has one sister and two brothers.
Seven years ago Serena and her family returned to Ibiza and they haven’t come back to the island since that year, so I haven’t seen her for ages, but I know she will always be my friend. Last week I talked to her and she told me that she was coming next summer another time. I’m very glad.

Steve Wilson

I will always remember when I caught him. It all began one night when I was at work and my daughter was at home alone and, suddenly, every time I called her, she didn’t answer the phone. When I got home, I found my daughter lying on the floor. She was dead. She had only one shot in the chest.
Since that day I haven’t rested a moment to find the murderer. I have been working with the police as an advisor throughout this time, investigating the crime that he committed.

Two weeks ago there was another similar crime: a 12 year old girl had been killed while her parents were at working dinner. But this time the killer left a track; we found his fingerprint.
We looked for information in the database until we found the man we had been looking for: Steve Wilson.
After that we found his home address and immediately we went toward his house.
He lived in a flat near downtown; he hadn’t any record and his neighbours spoke very well of him.  A normal man.

That day I could avenge the death of my daughter and look in the eyes of the man who killed her.
Afterwards, Steve was condemned  to life in prison for double murder in the first degree and in the end I could live quietly knowing that it would not happen and my daughter already rested in peace.

I will always remember the summer I met Joan

I will always remember the summer I met Joan. I was on holiday in Menorca with my

family and we decided to go round the island by boat, because we had been told it was

a great experience. Nobody expected what was going to happen, neither did I, but

because of that, I met Joan, so at last it hadn’t been that bad.

Everything started when we were in es Grau, a small seaside village in the north

of the island. It was a really windy day, and although my father is a great sailor, he

couldn’t avoid crashing into the cliffs. It’s impossible to explain how I felt when the

water pushed me deeper and deeper, I couldn’t do anything to reach the surface, and I

couldn’t breathe! Finally I lost consciousness. When I woke up the first thing I saw was

a strange boy staring at me, he seemed very happy and he helped me to sit up.

He told me he was Joan and he explained to me that the rest of the family was alright.

The problem was that the boat was totally destroyed and it took over a moth to repair

it. Meanwhile, we stayed in es Grau, where those friendly people took us in their small

houses. Although we couldn’t continue our trip as it was planned I would never change

what happened. It was the best month in my life! Joan and I did many things together,

and I learned a lot with him! During the day we went kayaking, diving, fishing… and at

nights we eventually camped in the forest or on the beaches and watched the stars and

he explained to me amazing stories about them. He was the only person who made

me feel free and safe. Only in one month he became my best friend, but as it is usually

said, best things never last, and It came the day that I had to come back home.

At the beginning we phoned each other twice a week but as time passed, we lost any

kind of contact. But the best part of all is that although I haven’t seen him for ages, I

know he will always be my friend.

Still waiting

I met him 50 years ago. I was reading the newspaper when he asked me for the time. He was brown haired and had blue eyes, he looked nice and calm. At that moment we couldn’t imagine it was going to be the beggining of a really powerful friendship.

Next day I met him again, he was my classmate, we were both doing an Economics degree. We got on well very fast, he was absolutly hilarious and also very clever. We went together to the library in order to study and help each other. We spent there many hours, therefore we got good marks. One afternoon, he told me that he had to go to USA because his father had found an excellent job offer. He promised me that he would send me a letter a soon as he arrived there, but the Second World War started and that letter never arrived.

I haven’t seen him for ages, but I know he will always be my friend. I still hope that one day we’ll meet again, hoping that he is alive and the new technolgies will make this dream possible.

My american adventure

I can still recall the holidays I spent in America when I was young. After working very hard for a long time, I finally managed to earn enough money to spend a few months in America, which was the thing I wanted the most since I was a child. Then, I flew alone to New York, looking forward to seeing new places and meeting interesting people.

When I arrived there, I was impressed by the enormous dimensions of the city. I walked and walked around the city for a few days, visiting some of the most important places in the city such as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. One day, while I was walking on the street, I saw a child crying next to a basketball court. He was about 15 years old, black-skinned and very tall. His name was Michael and, when I asked him why he was crying, he answered me that his basketball shoes had just broken and that he didn’t have enough money to buy a new pair, so he couldn’t play anymore. I felt  very sorry and I decided to give him money to get a new pair. He was very happy and he promised to me that he would reward me some day. From then, we got on very well and started being good friends, but I had to return to my country, so we had to separate.

It was about 20 years since I last saw Michael. I had no news from him and I hadn’t seen him for ages, but I knew that he would always be my friend. Nevertheless, one day, while I was watching a sports program on television, I saw a report that made me smile: a young basketball genius called Michael Jordan had just won his first ring as an NBA champion.

A love experience

I will always remember how I met John. It was a few years ago when I was studying at University. The second year of my career I went to England and I lived in a flat with three flatmates.

The city was wonderful and it pleased me. Soon, we started going out at night with our classmates. One day, Michael, a classmate, told us to go to a party in a swimming pool. It was called “The wet party” and he said that it was very common there. So, we felt like going. In the pool Michael introduced me to a boy who looked handsome. He was John. We talked all night and we laughed a lot. The next day he asked me out. Since then we started going out together and we became inseparable.

At the end of the year, I came back to Spain and we tried to continue our relationship. I really loved him. At first I was good but as time went by it became different. He didn’t phone me every day and he said he had been busy and other excuses and eventually I couldn’t believe him. At that moment I realized that long-distance relationships don’t work, so I decided to split up with him and try to rebuild my life.

My trip to South Korea

While my parents and I were in South Korea for summer holidays, something terrible happened: when we were going to pay for the meal that we had at a restaurant, we realized that the wallet and our passports had disappeared. We didn't have money or credit cards, all was lost... In addition, we were in a strange country with a language that we couldn't understand. So what should we do?

First of all, my father phoned the person who had organized this trip. In the second place, my mother explained to the owner what had happened, and the owner, after a long explanation, allowed us to leave the restaurant. At that moment, I was terrified. That was becoming the worst trip of my life. Should I stay in the hotel every single day of my holidays? It couldn't be real. While I was thinking about that, a receptionist came to our room saying that a man was calling for us in the hall. We went downstairs, and then a man called us: "Sorry, are you the owner of this wallet?" These words were the best words that my family and I could hear.

That young man turned out to be the taxi driver who had driven us to the restaurant. When all the things were given to us I asked the man his phone number in order to become friends. I haven't seen him for ages, but I know he will always be my friend.

An almost perfect relationship

I’ll always remember my first relationship, I was fifteen and I’d never fallen in love before. It was summer and I was on the beach with my friends, when a group of boys started to chat with us, they were completely shameless and that made us laugh. We spent all day with them and then we didn’t see them anymore.

Weeks ago, I was waiting for the bus when I ran into one of them. He sat near me at the bus stop smiling. At that moment he seemed to me so beautiful and funny, and I have to recognize that I flirted with him. We missed the bus that day, but I didn't mind because he asked me out and we started a great relationship. He was so perfect, we did everything together, every day we met at the bus stop and we went to different places. I fell for him two weeks ago; we used to say that it was like love at first sight. Nevertheless, everybody knows that nothing lasts forever. After two months we began to argue about everything, it was like we weren’t the same persons.

Suddenly, every time I called him, he didn’t answer the phone. Consequently, I stopped phoning him and that was the end of our relationship. I got over easily and he has done it too, as I saw him a month later with another girl. In my view it simply wasn’t meant to be.

Long-distance relationships

I will always remember last summer. I was in England at my grandparents’ house where I normally stay for two weeks. I met their new neighbours who had three children, two girls and a boy.
I always used to go and play football with the boy who was a year younger than me and the older sister that was my age used to watch. One day we started talking and I realized I fancied her, it became a routine, to play football and after that to go out with her. We used to talk and enjoyed each other’s company, we went to the cinema a few times and we also went for walks, as next to my grandparents’ house there’s really nice countryside and all the fields where extremely green because it was summer. My two weeks in England were about to finish and that meant I wouldn’t see her until Christmas when I would go back to England.
I went out with her for the last time before I had to go back to Spain, to explain that I was leaving and I would miss her a lot. However, we could still be in contact by Skype. She agreed and once I was in Spain we managed to stay in touch nearly every week, but bit by bit we lost contact and at that moment I realized that long-distance relationships don’t work.

One of my worst memories

Some years ago, I had a terrible experience that made me realize that not all your friends are real friends, and you shouldn’t rely on everybody. I was 13 years old and I had never had a boyfriend. At that time, one of my best friends was Yumiritzaida, we used to be together all day, we were in the same class, we studied together in the afternoons...

I was very smitten with Wellington, a gorgeous boy in my class. I thought that he also liked me, but I’m a shy person and I didn’t have the courage to talk to him and explain my feelings. Of course, Yumiritzaida was the only person who knew it, and she used to tell me that I should try to get over it, because she thought he was in love with another girl. Summer time arrived and I was sad because Wellington was from another country, Neverland, and he spent his holidays there. I went to Yumiritzaida’s house to tell her how I felt, but I couldn’t find her.  Suddenly, every time I called her, she didn’t answer the phone. I started to worry, so I decided to talk to her mum. After that conversation I felt furious, miserable and betrayed: Yumiritzaida had gone to Neverland, to spend her holidays with his boyfriend, whose name was Wellington.

After this, I never talked to them anymore and I tried to make new friends. What’s more, since then, I trust my friends after confirming they are true friends.
