Piracy is something common in our country, almost everybody has downloaded music or films from the internet, it's not considered a crime, more or less. Anyway, is it a beneficial or a problem?
Most people don't mind downloading all sort of files from the internet illegally, neither do I. I think it's something good in some ways, we're sharing information, data, culture, knowledge... and for free! Anybody with a computer and internet connection (which isn't cheap, actually) can access to these data, there are no differences between people. We're in a difficult situation now, some of us cannot afford certain things.
Piracy has damaged a lot both cinematographic and music industries. But these companies have made some progress in order to be competitive and survive. The price of DVDs has decreased a lot, years ago a new DVD could cost about 60€ or 70€. Now you can have a brand new Blu-Ray (with a higher quality of image) for half the price. Then 3D cinemas have appeared and spread, they aren't very good nowadays, but they are supposed to improve soon. Some internet stores offer to download music for a low price but in a good quality (1€ each song, more or less).
Piracy has given us a great benefits, we've got access to music, films and software easily and for free. And companies have tried to improve giving us new services and decreasing prices. Piracy has hurt the industry, but it also has stimulated it in some ways.
You've explained very well the way we are being benefited with piracy, but I think you should have put more attention in how piracy is benefiting the expansion of music. The music industry is against piracy, but it's making their singers become famous and earn money. Maybe in a communist regime this would never happen.
ResponderEliminarYou're being a bit extremist now... But I agree with you: culture (and also music) should be free for everyone. I should have mentioned that the internet, as a free media, helps a lot to new artist to show their work and also improve it.
EliminarI'm also one more pirate, however, I think the piracy has hurt so much music and cinematrogrphic industries, above all little ones.
